2024 Optimist Oratorical
Do You Know A Kiddo In Need of Scholarships? Who Doesn't!
Since its start in 1928, the Optimist Oratorical Contest has become the longest-running program sponsored by Optimist International. The contest is designed for youth to gain experience in public speaking, perfect self-expression, gain self-assurance, improve communication skills, and provide them with the opportunity to compete for a college scholarship
The 2024 Derby Optimist Oratorical Contest will be held on Thursday, February 22nd at 6:30p in the Derby Library.

2024 Oratorical Topic: "How to Change the World with Optimism!"
What Is The Contest?
Interested youth should prepare a 4 to 5 minute speech on the assigned topic, to be delivered on Thursday, February 22nd at the Derby Public Library. The speeches will be judged at the Club level, with the opportunity to move on to the District, State, and National levels. Each speech will be judged on the following criteria - Poise, Content of Speech, Delivery and Presentation, Overall Effectiveness.
Who Can Participate?
The contest is open to contestants from USD 260 (Derby) or USD 261 (Haysville) who are under the age of 19. So please join us!
How Do I Apply?
Applications will be available the night of the event, to be filled out before the student participates! Remember to bring a few docs so we can verify name and age! Please be sure to arrive about 6:15p so that we can start on time!
